nyepi-silence day

mar 07, 2008 is the SILENCE DAY or NYEPI we are calling. This is the first nyepi since we are in bali. for 24 hours, commencing from 0600hrs of mar 07 up until 0600hrs on mar 08, there should no activity held out of the house, no electricity on, no vehicle, etc... event the airport in bali is closed for 24 hours. for balinese nyepi means no fire, no working and no traveling. event there only three 'no' but it means a lot. for us who are not balinese could not do anything outside. if we decide to stay inside the house, we could only do activity which is not feasible and could not be heard from outside of the house for totally of 24 hours. therefore during the event hotel staff that have to work, they will stay at hotel. hotel will provide accommodation. as for us, ayah intended to take holiday on that day so we could stay at one of the hotel. most of the hotel offering special rate. we stay at le meridien bali since we are under the same chain - starwood. oom yusep arranged the room utilizing his points so we could stay for free.
we checked in early in the morning before 0600hrs of Mar 07. we booked three rooms, one for us, one for oom yusep and another one for tante lulu (ayah & oom yusep's friend at work). all with the family.
with this way, we could do activity out of the room but not out of the hotel. we enjoyed the swimming pool most...
first nyepi experience was great...
